My first 'real' gravel ride! Had a BLAST.
Conditions on the day
September 12, 2026Route was in great shape, some puddles as around 3 days before we had a pretty decent storm...nothing I couldn't ride through though.
The Ride Report:
I had no clue what to expect going into this ride, I just got my bike fit a couple days before by Adrian Wong (physiotherapist bike fitter out of Dartmouth - highly recommend) so I was really wanting to get out. (I should also mention I just got new wheels and tyres installed as well (Elitewheels - gravel aero +) I'll try to find the exact name...I paired this with 45mm GravelKing SS R - these blow out to around 50.5mm(the inner wheel measurement is 32mm - Im assuming if it was 25mm it would have been closer to the stated spec of 45mm.
Now on to the tyres - I wouldn't do this ride again with these tyres...unless your going quite slow it became quite sketchy in places and actually I wiped out once going up a steep hill when my front wheel spun out...lessons learned...lol
the transition from wilderness to road was smooth as well...the road you exit is before peggys cove road, so you have some time to adjust/hydrate, etc before battling the cars...after peggys cove road you will have the option to take st margarets bay road back or hit up the rails to trails (less elevation and no cars)...I took st margarets bay road and got yelled at by some teenager lol...go figure...
cant wait to do this ride again with some 'real' gravel tyres...
